Rob Moran - Email Developer

I'm an email developer and team lead at Jarrang, based on the coast in Newquay, Cornwall. I've spent the last five years building HTML emails - the kind that actually work across every client, look good on any device, and are accessible to everyone.

What I Do

Email Templates

This is where I spend most of my time - building templates that are responsive, accessible, and designed to make life easier for the marketing teams who use them daily.

Platform Work

Salesforce Marketing Cloud is my main platform - Cloudpages, custom blocks, Journey Builder, automations. I also work with Mapp, Campaign Monitor, Mailchimp, and a few more obscure systems.

Team Lead

I joined Jarrang in 2020 when there were just two developers. Now I lead the team - which means I'm still writing code, but also helping others solve problems and keeping projects moving.

About

I studied Graphic Design at Falmouth University, graduating in 2018. After a year working with the Students' Union at Penryn - doing design work, learning how organisations actually function - I joined Jarrang in 2020, right as the pandemic hit.

Back then there were just two developers. Five years later, I'm leading the team, and we've worked with brands across the UK and internationally. I still write code every day though - that's the part I enjoy most.

I work from home in Newquay, about five minutes from the coast. Getting out for cliff walks - even when the Cornish weather has other ideas - is a good way to clear your head after a few hours debugging Outlook rendering issues.

What I Enjoy

My favourite part of the job is building email templates - figuring out how to make something that's responsive, accessible, handles dark mode properly, and genuinely makes life easier for the marketing teams who'll use it every day. There's something satisfying about solving problems within the constraints that email clients throw at you.

I've also got quite deep into Salesforce Marketing Cloud over the years - Journey Builder, Automation Studio, Cloudpages, Data Extensions. I enjoy the technical side: building reporting dashboards that pull campaign data with SQL and display it with SSJS, or creating custom Content Blocks that give marketing teams flexibility without letting them accidentally break the layout.

Outside of Work

Big Marvel fan - always looking forward to whatever's coming next. Music-wise, I grew up on blink-182, Muse, and Paramore, and they're still in heavy rotation. I've collected CDs for years, but I recently got a turntable and I'm really enjoying vinyl. There's something nice about committing to a whole album instead of shuffling through playlists. When we get the chance, my partner and I like to travel - whether that's a city break or getting on a boat and seeing where it takes us.

Maurice, an orange tabby cat, lounging on his scratcher

In 2024 we adopted Maurice from Cats Protection. He's a ginger tabby who spends most of his time sleeping in sunbeams, demanding attention during video calls, and generally ruling the house. Working from home has its perks - he keeps me company during long debugging sessions.
